Kenwood DNX6140

About a month ago I purchased Kenwood DNX6140 dash receiver and had it installed in my car. And so far I am very pleased with it.

For those that do not know, this model includes improved audio with the possibility to play different formats such as MP3, WAV, or my favorite WMA format. There is a DVD player but only mpeg movie files can be played (no DivX option).

It also includes navigational GPS system with maps of the USA as well as Canada and Porto Rico.

Booting up the unit proved to be a slow process and thus very disappointing. I certainly would have appreciated that for the top dollar I paid for this model, the company could have made it boot instantaneously.

 

The most appreciated characteristics by me are the quality of the audio and video. I also like that streets I pass by are announced in a clear voice so I do not even need to look at the receiver’s screen to know where I am at. And since I am a big iPod user, I love how well it is integrate with the receiver.

Maybe the biggest issue with the model, other than the booting one, is the external antenna that you have to place on the windshield of your car.

Maybe it is necessary to have it because of GPS, but I am hoping that future models will find technological solutions that will be more esthetically pleasing than this one.

I know this receiver has an option for using satellite radio, but I sincerely have not used it to tell you how well it does.

All in all, I am glad I have it. It costs more than my last laptop but it is certainly a lot of fun to have it inside the car.
